Classic Cheesy Baked Ziti Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 pound rigatoni pasta
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 ½ pounds ground Italian sausage
  • 1 (28-ounce jar) marinara sauce
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente, about 8-10 minutes or according to package instructions.
  3. Once cooked, drain pasta and run under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  4. Add vegetable oil to a large skillet and place over medium heat.
  5. Add onion and cook until slightly golden, about 7-8 minutes.
  6. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and oregano and cook for 1-2 more minutes.
  7. Add sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 10 minutes.
  8. Stir in the marinara sauce, parsley, basil, and paprika. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, then remove from heat.
  9. Add pasta, meat sauce, and ricotta to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  10. Mix well until combined.
  11. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  12. Bake on the middle rack for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  13. Serve hot.
