Give Your Steak Unforgettable Umami With One Seasoning

NEWS

By AMBER SUTHERLAND-NAMAKO

No matter how you're cooking steak, you can amp up its flavors with various seasonings, and if you want to give it a boost of umami, all you need is monosodium glutamate, or MSG.
You can find concentrated MSG, like the one from Ajinomoto brand, in the spice aisle. However, when using it, hold back on the salt, lest the mineral becomes over-amplified.
When it comes to MSG, a little goes a long way, so only add a pinch or two of it. Wait until your steak's first flip to add it so that it doesn't burn away and offers peak flavor.
Alternatively, you can sprinkle it into your pan sauce once it's off the flame for a more controllable foray into this fantastic steak upgrade.
