Franklin Delano Roosevelt is mainly known for his time as America’s 32nd president during WWII and The Great Depression, but what is less known is his love for the dirty martini.
FDR's connection with the dirty martini was legendary, so much so that he's sometimes credited with inventing it, though it was really invented by bartender John O'Connor in 1901.
During his four-term presidency, FDR often turned to the dirty martini for a buzz. He served it up at gatherings of heads of state, including one with Joseph Stalin in 1943.
Even during Prohibition, FDR enjoyed a dirty martini on the golf course. When it was rolled back in 1933, he became the first President to serve alcohol legally in the White House.
