Sugar and water are all you need to make simple syrup. The ratio of the two ingredients can vary based on the level of sweetness and viscosity you want, but a 1:1 ratio is ideal.
If you don’t want a big batch, start by placing a mix of ½ cup each of water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. It’ll boil faster in a bigger pan, so keep a close eye.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the liquid reduces a bit. Be careful not to overcook, as this can cause the sugar to burn.
Then, take the syrup off the heat, and let it cool completely before using. You can also pour your syrup into a glass jar, seal it tightly, and store it in the fridge for a month.
