Perfect Ree Drummond's Mac And Cheese With A Pantry Ingredient

NEWS

By CAMRYN TEDER
While some chefs rely on spices and proteins to elevate their macaroni and cheese, chef Ree Drummond uses an especially unconventional ingredient known as mustard powder.
Made of ground mustard seeds and turmeric for color, the tangy powder is more pungent and concentrated than liquid mustard. Its heat adds contrast to the richness of mac & cheese.
You can use store-bought mustard powder or make your own by grinding mustard seeds. The flavor of each powder varies with the type of seed used, but they’re mostly hot and spicy.
While actual measurements will vary depending on your mac and cheese recipe, mixing in one teaspoon of mustard powder and adjusting to taste from there is a good starting point.
