While America is fertile ground for inventive pizza toppings, there's one popular variety from Sweden that hasn't yet come to the attention of the U.S. pizza fans: Swedish kebab.
Most commonly found in pizza joints run by Swedes of Middle Eastern heritage, it is exactly what it sounds like: a pizza topped with kebab meat, usually lamb or beef.
Other fixings and sauces added are also associated with gyros or kebab platters, like lettuce and yogurt sauce. It truly can become one of the standard types of pizzas in the U.S.
The Swedish kebab has many variations, but you generally get a thin, crisp crust with cheese, topped with crisp iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, sliced beef or lamb, and yogurt sauce.
