Open jar of peanut butter surrounded by peanuts

The One Type Of Peanut Butter You Have To Be Careful Storing

Natural peanut butter is made with just peanuts and a bit of salt, without any added stabilizers to prevent separation. Stored improperly, the natural oils can cause it to go bad.
Unopened, natural peanut butter can last several months in the pantry or 12 months in the refrigerator. Once opened, it can be stored in the fridge for about three to four months.
If an opened jar is stored in the pantry, it will only last about a month before spoiling. Natural peanut butter is also at a higher risk for mold in a pantry, even within a month.
Signs that natural peanut butter has gone bad include a rancid smell or taste, a dark brown or greenish color, and a dry or crumbly consistency.
