Toasting New England-style hot dog buns conventionally by splitting them open and laying the inside face-down on the cooking surface can prove tough due to their flat, soft sides.

Interestingly, the trick here is to toast the top-split hot dog rolls only on the outside flat surface, making sure that both sides of the bun are coated evenly with butter.
