The Viral Trick For Removing Crab Leg Meat Out Of The Shell With Ease

Extracting the meat from crab legs is something of a Herculean task, but there’s a hack making the rounds on social media courtesy of Joshua Weissman, aka FlakeySalt on TikTok.
Weissman says to give each prepared leg section a good hard tap, forcing the meat from the shell like sliding a straw from its paper. This works best on regular-sized crabs.
Using kitchen scissors, cut the ends off each leg segment about a half-inch in from the joint. The goal is to remove any tapered parts of the shell, creating an open-ended tube.
Then hold the leg vertically, rapping hard against your open palm, forcing meat from the shell in one piece. Note that if you’ve boiled your crab in beer, hot liquid may come out.
