What Does 'Splitting The G' Mean When Drinking Guinness?

While you can sip Guinness out of a can, it traditionally comes in Guinness glass with foam on top. This serving method gave rise to the term "split the G."

To "split the G" means to drink the beer nonstop until it lines up with the middle part of the "G" on the Guinness glass. For most people, this is several pretty big gulps.

Guinness Brewery Ambassador Colm O'Connor told Chowhound that the G-splitting phenomenon " is not a Guinness Initiative." Rather, it's more of a recent trend.

O'Connor said that splitting the G has become a big trend for tourists in Dublin. "It's something that I imagine would've been dreamt up by somebody on TikTok," he said.
