The size of every Costco store varies. The world's smallest Costco is in Juneau, Alaska, while the largest in the world can be found in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Juneau's location is about half the size of most other Costcos. While it has no bakery or gas station, there are plenty of other features, including booze and a food court.
The reason for this store's size is that it was built as a prototype to see if a smaller store could work. It’s perfect for the area since Juneau has just over 32,000 residents.
On the other hand, the world's largest location in Salt Lake City is a whopping 235,000 square feet, which is nearly double the size of many other Costco stores.
The store was upgraded in 2015 to see if residents in Salt Lake City would utilize a Costco business center, which specializes in larger, industrial-sized bulk quantities.
