Why You Should Soften Sticks Of Butter Standing Up

Softening butter sticks in the microwave by standing them upright in a microwave-safe container can help maintain the desired texture in baked goods and prevent over-melting.
Since most butter wrappers are made out of paraffin-coated paper designed to be microwave-safe, you can keep them on during the heating process to prevent potential mess.
To soften butter, microwave it for approximately 15 to 25 seconds in increments of 5-10 seconds. Monitor its consistency closely and use the finger test to determine readiness.
Lightly push a finger — or the back of a spoon — into the stick. If it easily leaves an indentation but retains its basic shape and structure, the butter has softened adequately.
