While a baking tray is a common tool used to prepare frozen fries in the oven, it alone cannot ensure evenly cooked, crunchy fries. That's why you also need a wire rack.
Fries with seasoning
When you only use a baking tray, the excess water cannot easily escape while the fries thaw and cook due to the flat tray beneath it. It leads to soggy fries that stick together.

Using a wire rack set on top of a baking sheet helps ensure frozen French fries get even airflow from top to bottom. They'll all end up crispy and golden brown.
Fries in a wire basket
Simply place a wire rack on top of a baking tray, add your fries, and follow the directions on the package as usual. It's a simple swap, but it makes all the difference.
