Kathryn attributes her love of food (specifically baking) to her nana, who introduced her to choux pastries filled with chocolate cream, rum balls, and the perfect chocolate chip cookie.
Her first job was working in a cafe, where she spent a considerable amount of time behind the coffee machine. Sadly, this was before she discovered her love of caffeine.
Her most notable achievement is working for the last four-plus years as the lead food writer for Urban List New Zealand, a role that has seen her reviewing the latest bars, restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Auckland.

Kathryn has more than a decade of copywriting experience under her belt, primarily in the area of food. She began her career straight out of high school, contributing to a local surfing magazine while simultaneously completing a correspondence course in freelance journalism. Kathryn then went on to work for a number of different publications covering everything from music and film to pets and weddings. After this, her food writing story began, as she took up a job as a journalist on two hospitality-based business-to-business magazines. Kathryn joined Chowhound in 2024 and is excited to continue sharing her love of sugar, spice, and all things nice with a broader audience.
